Howard Sartori Provides Tips to Outsmart Scam Artists

at the 17 February Dinner-Meeting

With the proliferation in cyber-crime and identity theft, Howard Sartori, Captain USN (Retired) devotes most of his time to these increasing threats to our businesses and lives. Identity theft can cost victims countless hours and dollars trying to salvage their credit and clear their name. To protect yourself, Howard will provide us with the ammunition to avoid becoming a victim.
Recently, Captain Sartorie was a featured speaker for Belvoir's Retiree Appreciation Day where he enlightened retirees on "criminals phishing for your personal information." He is currently working as an industry Internet Consultant and participates in several government cyber committees. Howard has served as an Information Technology Engineer, Cybercrime consultant and expert witness to businesses, Government Agencies, and non-profit organizations.                                .
Captain Howard Sartori retired from the U.S. Navy after completing 36 years of Naval Service. As an Engineering Duty Officer and Professional Engineer, he spent most of his Navy career in operations, Combat Information Center and electronic warfare areas. His tours included Viet Nam, duty aboard air craft carriers, cruisers and an attack submarine, COMFIRSTFLEET. In the 1990s, Howard was asked to lead the effort to implement Internet into the Navy.
Between Active duty assignments, Captain Sartori worked with large communications and oil companies in telecommunications, oil field and ship technology. His two favorite projects were the microwave communications system for the Spanish Air Force and the Kingdom of Saudi nation microwave telephone network. He was appointed by the Office of Telecommunications Policy as a U.S. Delegate (1972-1988) to the annual International Telecommunication Union in Geneva to develop and negotiate microwave frequency utilization and recommendations for the world's civilian and military organizations. He is the recipient of several Meritorious Service Medals and a Legion of Merit.

Sartori graduated from the California Polytechnic University and graduated from the National Security Management Program at the National Defense University. He participates on  government cyber committees, enjoys travel, participation in charitable organizations and golf.

Did You Know?

Did you know your chapter had a birthday on 20 July 2009, 32 years after 193 members and guests gathered to celebrate its establishment as a chapter - what was then The Retired Officers Association (TROA)?

Did you know many of the original founders are still active contributors to the continued success of your chapter, which is now associated with the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA)?

Did you know many, many hours of dedicated and selfless work have gone into keeping your chapter in the news with such grand achievements as winning MOAA’s 5-star Chapter of Excellence for the 6th straight year?

Did you know how many fellow members have contributed to the outstanding reputation your chapter has with MOAA headquarters and the Virginia Council of Chapters staff, and the members of the 18 other Virginia chapters?

Did you know the chapter members who have formed the Executive Committee/Board of Directors are the people who have made it what it is today?

Did you know many members of the Executive Committee have served continually and unselfishly for a considerable number of years – some with as many as 25 years of voluntary service to your chapter?

Did you know there will always be a need for similarly dedicated members to continue the proud traditions and achievements of past and present members of the many chapter committees?

Did you know it is now time to pass the baton, and we would love to have YOU step up and become one of those special members who will keep the chapter as vibrant and viable as it has been for the past 32 years?

Did you know it is your turn to come forward and inquire just how you can help your chapter?

Now you know, and you can find out more by contacting your Chapter President, Lisa Cramer.

Thank-you in advance for coming forward!

Sincerely,

Your Chapter Officers and Board of Directors
