The Mount Vernon Chapter, through the generous donations of its members, supports the Fort Belvoir Army Community Services "Hearts Apart" project. This project provides support to wives and children of deployed soldiers, many of whom are members of National Guard and Reserve Units.
Many of these families are experiencing the worries, financial difficulties, and loneliness typical when a spouse/parent is deployed. However, because their spouse is a National Guard or Reserve member, they do not have the support group normally found in an active duty unit or a military community.
"Hearts Apart" is attempting to fill the void by improving the quality of life for these military families, providing them the opportunity to meet socially, celebrate special events such as children's birthdays, and discuss issues with others who share their concerns.
The Mount Vernon Chapter has developed a plan to 1) sponsor special events for "Hearts Apart" families and 2) provide temporary funds for short term emergency problems.
If you would like to make a donation, please send to MVC/MOAA, P.O. Box 97, Mount Vernon, VA 22121. Checks should be made payable to MVC/MOAA.
